September 27, 2017 | Bunker Hill Dentistry Wisdom teeth emerge in the back of your mouth sometime between the ages of 17 and 25 (for most people). These additional molars often need to be removed, but there is a lot of misinformation regarding how and why wisdom teeth removal surgery occurs. An x-ray will reveal the status of your wisdom teeth. Do Wisdom Teeth Always Need To Be Removed? No! This dental surgery procedure is considered a rite of passage into adulthood, but many individuals will find that their wisdom teeth come in without issue. The tooth removal is necessary when there is a complication with the new molars. This could mean that they have only partially emerged, that there is not enough room on the gum line for the new teeth, that the wisdom teeth are crooked, etc. At your regular dental checkup, Dr. Le will examine your teeth and perform x rays to see if there are any risks or existing issues. If you are concerned about your wisdom teeth or oral pain in general, you can also set an appointment at Bunker Hill Dentistry and we will determine the best course of action. What Happens When Wisdom Teeth Are Removed? The tooth extraction procedure is relatively simple for skilled dentists. You will either be numbed by local anesthesia or make use of several sedation options depending on the severity of your case. If your wisdom teeth have already emerged, they will be pulled. If they have not completely come in, an incision will be made into the gum line so that the dentist has full access to the tooth. Once the surgery is over, you will experience swelling and some pain, as well as tenderness in your face and neck. You will have access to pain medication once your wisdom tooth removal surgery is complete. All surgical procedures are performed in this private suite. How Much Does It Cost To Have Wisdom Teeth Removed? The total amount you will have to pay to have these molars extracted depends on factors such as the severity of your condition and your insurance status. On average, removing each tooth can cost between $200 and $500. At Bunker Hill Dentistry we accept a variety of insurance providers as well as financing such as Care Credit.
